The brief
An eighth birthday at a venue on the Bukit with a full artificial pitch, a playground and a pool. Vladimir is a football boy — properly, in the kit — and his parents had bought the team shirts for the whole family. Our job was not to invent a theme. It was to build around the one they already had.
What we built
A stadium wall by the restaurant terrace: <i>VLADIMIR Turns 8</i> on a navy and red board with a giant foil football balanced on top, a <i>SOCCER</i> sign, football foil balloons through a garland of red, royal blue and powder blue, and a white plinth to stand on. Everything sat in the team's colours rather than ours.
How the day went
Straight onto the pitch — the boys took the goals and did not really leave. Then team games on the grass with coloured cloths, water pistols across the lawn, and the thing nobody expects: a leaf blower, turned on the guests one at a time, hair straight up, eyes shut, screaming with laughter. Even the adults sitting at the table got it. Between rounds they were in the pool and back out again.
What the parents got
A party built around what their son actually loves, on a pitch, at an age where that matters more than any character. And a photograph of the three of them in matching shirts that looks like a team sheet.
